The Birth of Venus- My review

THE BIRTH OF VENUS
Set in Florence, Italy during the Renaissance, this book follows Alessandra Cecchi. Allessandra is passionate about art and is fascinated when a young male artist arrives from Europe to paint the family chapel. Like Allessandra, Florence is entering a new phase of change and conflict exists between the church and philosophers of the day whose Avant-garde thinking seemed unholy. New ways of thinking give Allessandra the courage to challenge the traditional roles bestowed on women. Yet old ways force Allesandra to feel guilty about her enthrallment with the male artist and his delicate work.
Florence is such an exciting, rich place to learn about and the art and religion that has had such an influence on Florence was represented in such an intriguing way- through the eyes of a young woman. I loved this book
